Ch9 Hair Follicle

F1Ch9(113049): This miniaturized (immature) follicle shows a coarsened perifollicular sheath. To the right of the center of the field, some of the cells have vacuolated cytoplasm; these cells provide a marker for an early stage in the development of the outer root sheath. The wedge of the bulb is primitive but has begun its migration into the outer root sheath. At the extremity of the bulb, the fibrous tissue is activated.
